Valentine's Day 2017

Valentine’s Day fell on a Tuesday this year.  We found a babysitter through the Next-door site, a 16 year old neighborhood girl named Lexi and she came and baby sat the kids for us on the Saturday before and we were able to make reservations for Urban Fondue to go out and celebrate Valentine’s Day.  We love Urban Fondue because of the lengthy dinner, the cheese fondue is the best ever, and the martinis from Bartini that is a part of the Urban Fondue are amazing and reasonable.  We got there a bit early and were able to get the early discounted fondue experience meal for 2 as well which was awesome.  It was fun to get out and be able to have some adult time together and celebrate what we believe to be our 14th Valentine’s Day together.  It was also fun to get dressed up and I got my hair done that day as I happened to have an appointment to get my hair cut with my hair stylist which was good timing.  We got home in time to put the kids to bed and were super happy to find that the kids had such an awesome time with their new baby sitter.

On Valentine’s Day, the kids actually chose their own Valentine’s Day attire for the day and I got some cute pictures of the kids before school started.  Then the kids headed to school with their Valentine’s Day cards for their classmates and excited for their classroom parties.  I got a few cute pictures of Olivia and her classmates and dropped her off.  Brandon’s classroom party was scheduled for 1:15 PM that day and I got to go and hang out with him and his classmates.  He was excited that I could go and it was fun seeing his festivities going on his classroom. He had a cute window heart deflector craft that he made with his classmates and then they got to have a yummy fruit yogurt parfait and open up their Valentine’s Day cards.  It was a great party!  After the party, Brandon had soccer practice and then he and Sean got home and we had dinner.  Then Cupid came and left the kids a few small presents and some candy.  The kids were so excited that Cupid came.  It ended up being a great Valentine’s Day.

Brandon's school update!

Brandon had a spelling bee for his school as a fundraiser where he got the sponsors that donated to the school depending on how many spelling words he got right.  He had 10 words that his teacher gave us that he had to practice and learn that were going to be on the test.  It was a written test and many of the words he got were the popcorn words he was learning each week at school.  Brandon did a great job practicing writing the words and spelling them with me.  He had the test and got 100%!  This was a big deal for his school and he got a medal and got to have his name and photo be put up on the wall in the school’s cafeteria.  He also got $40 for his school as both CiCi and I donated a $2 per word that he got correctly.  We were really proud of him for this.

We also got Brandon’s report card back for quarter 2.  He did awesome and was ahead the game in math, knowing his letters, and reading.  He just needed to work a bit more on his handwriting.  He did awesome on his DIBELs test which is an early reading test that is a key indicator of how well he will do in the future with reading and writing.  He scored as well as what he should be doing at the end of first grade which made me really pleased.  Brandon also sight read an entire Elephant and Piggy book on his own.  There were some hard silent words that he was able to sound out.  I am so proud of how well he has adjusted to his school and so happy with his kindergarten teacher Mrs. Borrelli and his school which scored the top elementary school in Tigard.  I am excited to watch him continue to learn and grow and hope to develop a love for learning for him that will last a life time.

A typical weekend in January

I thought it would be good to update what a typical weekend is like for us in January.  On Saturday, Olivia has gymnastics at 9:45 AM and sometimes Brandon comes with me so he can hang out with Logan and usually Sean will work out or Brandon will stay home with Sean.  It is nice for Brooke and I to catch up and we usually go to Starbucks and hang out while the girls have fun at gymnastics.  We get home and hang out for a few hours and then usually go grocery shopping.  Then we get home and have friends over or hang out until dinner time.  Then its bath time and then bed time.  The kids are usually in bed 8:30 and are usually asleep soon after due to no naps.

Sundays:  We get up and usually have a big breakfast all together and then hang out before we get ready for swim lessons and basketball which both begin at 12:00 PM.  Usually I take Olivia to her swim lessons and Sean takes Brandon to basketball.  Sometimes Olivia and I try to rush back to watch the end of Brandon’s basketball game.  Sometimes Brandon has a classmate’s birthday party after basketball. Then we get home and usually do something as a family together like going to OMSI or going to Sky High or hanging out with friends.  Then it is time to make dinner and then get ready for bed as the school week is starting all over again. Throw in the fact that I am usually doing laundry all day long Sunday as well.
