Olivia's 7th birthday party

Olivia and her bestie Addie are only 6 days apart and the girls really wanted to have their birthday parties together this year.  Brooke and I thought it would be a good idea as less exposure for everyone to only have to come to 1 birthday party.  We decided to keep the party small and only to the girls on their soccer team and 1 friend outside of soccer each.  Olivia chose her friend Maddie (our neighbor) and Addie chose her cousin Kalani.  We had Teodora (Olivia's good friend who was in her class this year), Avery (in Olivia's class last year, Amelia, Izabel, Astrid, and Elise (who was also in Olivia's class this year).  Everyone was able to make it except for Amelia who's mom didn't feel comfortable while dropping her off.  We decided to have the party in late June after Father's Day weekend but before 4th of July weekend as we hoped people would be around and the weather would be decent.  We found a fun outdoor park near our house called Bull Mountain Park that had a Gazebo and some picnic benches.  We liked it because it was close by and relatively isolated so we wouldn't see other people and have huge crowds.

The girls decided they wanted to do a Hawaiian/Luau themed birthday party and we rented the Kona Ice snow cone truck to come for their party and provide snow cones to all the guests.  We also found a bunch of cute games on Oriental Trading-a pineapple ring toss game, fish bean bag toss game, and I found a cute Luau themed BINGO game on Amazon.  Brooke got three crafts to do as well-necklaces/bracelets, painting a pineapple, and making colored sand necklaces.  We thought it would be good for the kids to go around to each station and do an activity and we kept them spread out.  We also found two cute Pinatas and stuffed them with candy and got some fun prizes for their games including metallic scrunchies and flip slap bracelets.  The girls picked out matching birthday shirts on Etsy and had them personalized too.

It was relatively easy getting ready on the day of their birthday party.  Brooke went and got the girls donuts (they decided on donuts over cupcakes) and found some cute decorations at the Dollar Store.  I got the site early to hold it (since it was first come first serve) and then Sean held it for us.  The party was from 1:00-3:30 PM so we had the donuts, some light packaged snacks, juice boxes, and then Kona Ice of course so we didn't have to set up a lot of food.  We also wanted to cut down on any food handling exposure.  We got lucky with the weather and it was a warm 75 degree day with sunshine (it was supposed to rain the next day).  The girls were very excited for their birthday and it was fun that they got to celebrate together.  We got the site all set up and hung the 2 pinatas and then got some cute birthday pictures of the girls before the guests came.

These two are ready for their guests

The girls guests started arriving and so did Kona Ice which was exciting for everyone.  Olivia and Addie were so excited to see their friends especially the ones they had not seen since school abruptly closed.  It was nice seeing all the parents as well.  We started off the parking by walking up to the start of the park and getting sno cones.  The girls loved picking out their own flavors and Kona Ice had such a cute birthday sign for the girls. They got fun color changing cups too that they got to keep.

So excited to see their friends

After the kids finished their sno cones we decided to do the crafts first.  There were 3 different craft tables set up-painting the pineapples, making the bead bracelets and necklaces, and then the colored sand necklaces-and the kids got to go around to each table and do a craft.  They seemed to like painting the ceramic pineapple the best.

So much fun making necklaces

After the kids finished the crafts we brought out the lawn games and separated them into 2 groups to play.  They won a prize for each game-a metallic scrunchie and a flip slap bracelet.  The games were fun and they had fun winning their prizes!  Then the girls took some cute photos with the photo props I found at Target and we played Hawaiian Luau BINGO where they won another fun prize-flamingo squirt guns!

BINGO was a lot of fun

After BINGO we decided it was pinata time!  We got 2 pinatas just so the kids could have more fun hitting them.  Brooke got a flamingo and I got a popsicle.  Olivia helped me stuff ours full of candy the day before and had fun picking out all of her favorite candy at Target.  The pinatas were hard to hit and the kids all got to hit them several times before they finally broke.  It was fun getting to hit both pinatas and everyone got lots of candy.

After the pinata we had out donuts. The kids sang Happy Birthday to Olivia and Addie and they got to blow out their birthday candles.  Then the girls got to open up their birthday presents which they were excited about.  The kids all made them such cute cards and the girls loved all of their presents.  While we had to be super careful and hand sanitize, wear masks, and wear gloves the girls still had a blast and forgot just a for a bit about the pandemic that was going around them which is what we had hoped for.  These kids have gone through so much with missing the rest of the school year, their friends, their end of year parties, and sports that it was so nice that they could at least have a birthday party.  And no one got sick after which made Brooke and I sigh a deep sigh of relief!  Hopefully there will be no more quarantine birthday parties next year!
