Winter fun in Sun River

We went to Sun River on New Year's Day for 5 days.  We rented a dog friendly house that had a fenced yard and were excited to take Lulu on her first vacation.  It took quite a while to get all packed up but we were finally on the road a bit later than we wanted in the early afternoon.  The weather was good and there was just a little snow on the pass.  Unfortunately Brandon got carsick and threw up near the top of the pass.  We stopped in Black Butte to let clean up and to let Lulu out to go potty.  Lulu refused to potty but had fun seeing snow for the first time.  We got back in the car and made it into Bend and went shopping at Fred Meyer's for the week.  Then we headed over to Papa Murphy's and got pizza for dinner.  We finally got to our Sun River house around 7:00 PM.  We unloaded the car, put the pizza in the oven and ate dinner and then immediately went in our hot tub.  We didn't stay in our normal house (it was booked) but the house we stayed at was a cute log cabin with a nice wood stove and the hot tub was really nice.  Lulu loved the fenced backyard.

Our good friends the Mowery's were at Sun River a few days before us and their trip overlapped ours a few days.  We met up with them on our first full day.  The kids had fun in the hot tub in the morning and playing.  They left around lunch time and we decided to meet up again at 3:00 PM at Mt. Bachelor to do the Inner tubing track they had there.  The drive up to Mt. Bachelor was very pretty and we had a perfect day for tubing as it was sunny with little wind.  The kids had a blast tubing.  Olivia loved it and did it the whole 2 hours we paid for.  It was so nice to be pulled up the tubing hill and not to have to hike up.  Brandon and Logan had a blast together.  Addie didn't like the hill as much as Olivia but came back and did a few runs with us.  After we finished tubing we went back home and made dinner.  After dinner we had Addie and Logan over again with Brooke and had fun playing board games.  Brooke and I got to scrapbook.  It was a fun day.

The next day we lazed around the house and I got a workout video in.  We made breakfast at the house and then Brooke came over and our husbands and the kids went to the SHARC for several hours to swim.  Brooke and I had a fun walk with Lulu into the village.  Then we scrapbooked at our house until the kids came back from swimming.  It was very relaxing.  We took a rest after that and then decided to go into Bend for dinner and for bowling.  We found a really good Asian/Mexican fusion restaurant on Yelp called Spork.  Then we went to Lava Lanes and did 2 games of bowling.  The kids had a lot of fun bowling although Brandon struggled a bit without bumper lanes.  We then headed home to a very happy Lulu who missed us.  It was a fun night with our friends.

We spent the next day going in the hot tub, making bath bombs out of the kits that the kids got for Christmas, and then taking a fun walk into the Village to the Toy shop and to get ice cream at Goody's.  Lulu got her first taste of ice cream and loved it.  We then headed back home and made dinner and relaxed at our house and played family games that night.  The kids got a bunch of games for Christmas and we played Family Charades and it was really fun.

Our last full day at Sun River we spend the morning in our hot tub.  Then we got our hiking gear on and headed to Benham Falls.  The hike was a beautiful 2.5 mile hike.  The kids did great on it and Lulu loved it.  It was so pretty walking amongst the snow covered paths and over the Deschutes River.  The falls were very pretty in the winter.  I would like to go back again in the summer and just see how different it looks.  After our hike we relaxed in the hot tub and then went to Sun River brewery for dinner.  We played some Sushi Go at the brewery and watched the Seahawks play in their play-off game.  Unfortunately they lost.  Still a very fun day.

Our last morning we had to pack up and leave by 11:00 AM.  The kids had school the next day although I had 2 more days off to unpack and relax.  I did my workout that morning and then we packed up.  It began snowing very hard right when we were getting ready to leave.  It was really pretty and Lulu loved the snow.  I got some cute pictures of her and the kids in the snow before we left.  We headed into Bend and had the most amazing breakfast at another good restaurant we found on Yelp.  They had the most amazing Chi tea lattes.  It was a great way to end our fun trip.  We will be back in 6 months in the summer!
